Julia Suzuki, Fiction and fantasy author, was kind enough to answer few questions for us. Check out the interview.
Thanks so much for stopping by the log for an interview!
CH5: Did you always want to be a writer or did you picture yourself doing something else, if so what was it?
JZ: I always had a love of books and with that the desire to be a writer one day! But as being a writer is a relatively sedate career I pursued other interests first.
I was a part- time model and dancer, though my main career was in licensing for Disney and then with an international resorts company.
I believe in life you should do what you love irrespective of money or any other societal pressures. I am fairly strong minded and let my heart be my judge for everything I do and am not easily swayed.
CH5: Do you have must- have while you're writing?
JZ: Coffee and a clean home are both musts. I like my environment to be just right- caffeine gives me that extra buzz.
CH5: What do you consider the best part of being a writer?
JZ: I think writing is extremely relaxing, and takes you away from any negative worries. For me it is like going into another world – a better one!
CH5: Are any of the characters in your book based on people you know?
JZ: There are of course people who have influenced me and my writing in many ways. Guys has a certain traits of my mentor, Igorr people who have been unkind to me and Kiara is not dissimilar from my mother.
CH5: Why did you decide to write a fiction/Fantasy series?
JZ: I love adventure and fantasy is my favorite genre. I feel this genre is where I am meant to be as a writer.
CH5: Do you have a favorite character from your book?
JZ: It changes sometimes but Amlie always seems to be the one I mention most when asked. I like her qualities: determined, loyal, feisty and she punches above her weight.
CH5: Why did you decide Dragons should have an economy system?
JZ. The dragons live like humans do with a school etc and also demonstrate our human positive and negative personality traits. Money makes our world go around and I felt it should there's too – it helps to emphasize the greedy traits of Igorr, and Yula the Hudrah who was so easily bribed :).
CH5: Can you tell us anything about what are you working on?
JZ: I have just finished the next novel in the series.
CH5: Just for fun: what's your most embarrassing moment? It can be writing related but it doesn't have to be.
JZ: When I was just a few years old I used to hug my father's leg to feel safe when around strangers. One time I did this and then realized, a few minutes later, that I was hugging a complete stranger.
I still remember being horrified.
CH5: Yikes, Well at least you were a little girl, I guess you were more scared than embarrassed.
JZ: :)) I used to blush from a very early age.
Embarrassment was a common theme – a little like Yoshiko's color change … awkward x
